Teenager suffers serious injuries in pepper spray attack

A teenager has been left with a serious eye injury after being attacked with pepper spray near a builder’s merchants in Chesterfield. Derbyshire police are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened to contact them as part of their investigation into the incident.

Officers were called to Sheffield Road at around 5.20am on Saturday, July 30, following reports that a man had been assaulted. When they arrived they found the victim, who hasn’t been named, had been sprayed with either CS gas or a pepper-type spray.

As a result of the attack, the victim suffered a serious injury to one of his eyes.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of possession of a weapon. The trio, aged 23, 23 and 24, have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers investigating the incident say they are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, in particular anyone who might have CCTV or dashcam footage.
