A former city centre Derby restaurant building appears in planning applications submitted to Derby City Council this week. It aims to change the popular eating establishment into accommodation.

The application relates to the building previously occupied for many years by Steliano’s and Sapho’s Greek Taverna restaurant, in London Road, and is asking for permission for a change of use to a 12 bedroom house in multiple occupation, which would house 17 people.

Another application for a change of use has also been submitted for the site of the former Zizzi’s restaurant, at 16-17 Friar Gate. The plan proposes a change of use and erection of a two-storey extension to form six apartments in total, one of which would be in multiple occupation.

Other planning applications include a new shop frontage for the listed Cosy Club building in Victoria Street, work to trees with preservation orders and home extensions across the city.

People are entitled to comment on planning applications and public consultation usually lasts around 21 days. Applications are usually decided within eight to 12 weeks unless they have to go to the planning control committee for a decision, which could be a longer process.
