A new vegan food takeaway will open tomorrow at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet East Midlands. The Filthy Vegan will open within the South Normanton shopping complex’s food court on Thursday (September 1).

Dishes free from any animal products will be served from a unit located next to Burger King, and not far from other big name brands including Subway, Harry Ramsdens, and Chopstix. The owners of the Nottingham-based catering firm, James Freeman and Joe Johnson, have expressed their excitement at trading alongside some of the giants of the industry at the centre, which is located near junction 28 of the M1.

James said: “We are really privileged to be here alongside some of the world’s leading franchises.” Joe added: “For us to open here is a dream come true and is a result of three-and-a-half years of hard work. We can’t wait to see everyone there.”

The Filthy Vegan, the only vegan food stall at Nottingham Beach in Old Market Square this summer, is famed for its healthy take on a traditional kebab, called the Filthy Kebab. Seasoned soya meat comes with a naan bread, salad, hot sriracha sauce and garlic mayo. And at 600 calories it’s half the usual amount.

The business started out by taking orders through Instagram and Facebook pages and making the food at James’ home in Netherfield. The response surpassed all expectations.

The range expanded to include Moving Mountains hot dogs and Louisiana Chick’n Burgers, plus a variety of vegan sweet treats such as doughnuts. They also do a gluten-free kebab.

Since the business launched in February, 2019, they have attended events all over the UK, festivals, weddings and the Winter Wonderland Christmas market, in Nottingham.

The ribbon cutting for Filthy Vegan’s new food court outlet will take place at 10am tomorrow morning, Thursday (September 1).

In other McArthurGlen Designer Outlet East Midlands news, American fashion giant Tommy Hilfiger relocated into a bigger 4,627 square foot unit last month. The new outlet, which is located in a “prime position” next to Starbucks by the huge shopping village’s car park, welcomed its first customers on in late July.

Nottingham-based firm Doughnotts opened a kiosk at the South Normanton-based complex in mid-July. The sweet treats are available from just outside the food court for £2.50 for standard and £3.50 for a premium doughnut.

Denby Pottery’s store at the huge shopping complex reopened last month after undergoing a four-week refurbishment. The Barkery, by Frenchie Frenchie, which sells a wide range of dog treats, opened at the centre in March.
