Derbyshire viewers have been left without BBC East Midlands Today bulletins as part of ‘temporary measures’ brought in by the BBC.

The loss of bulletins was announced this morning Tuesday, September 6 after the BBC’s East Midlands Today team confirmed that it was now sharing its outputs and news with its West Midlands counterparts, reports Leicestershire Live.

The exact reason for the move is not clear, with the East Midlands Today team describing it as a “temporary measure”. However, it means viewers across the entire region are now receiving their news with a certain West Midlands flavour.

In a statement, the East Midlands Today team said: “This morning, we will be sharing breakfast bulletins with the West Midlands. This is a temporary measure and our usual output will resume as soon as possible.”

This is not the first time this year that viewers in the county have lost their BBC updates. In March, the broadcaster took East Midlands Today off-air for almost a week due to Covid-related staff shortages.

At the time, a BBC spokesperson said: “Like employers in every area of the economy, we’re seeing significant staff disruption caused by Covid. Apart from a few exceptions, we have maintained our normal service, which will resume as soon as possible.”
