A Derby man who drove his car through a Travelodge reception has been jailed for three years. Nathan Anderson, 33, wreaked havoc when he checked into the hotel at the Cambridge Leisure Park in September 2019, when he deliberately set off the fire alarm, causing a building-wide evacuation.

He also smeared faeces across the floor and the door of the corridor near his room and then drove his car straight through the reception area of the hotel later that evening, smashing the doors and causing serious damage. Nobody was injured in the incident, but Anderson, who was caught on CCTV, fled before emergency services arrived.

Anderson, of East Street, Derby, was found guilty at trial of damaging property recklessly endangering life and was sentenced to three years in prison at Huntingdon Law Courts on Monday, September 5.

PC Ryan Parker, who investigated, said: “Anderson behaved recklessly and dangerously that night and he’s lucky nobody was seriously hurt.

“He caused extensive damage to the hotel and distress to the staff on duty and those who had to clear up his mess. I am glad justice has been done and Anderson will be spending time behind bars for his actions.”
