Two well-used routes in a Derby suburb will each undergo around a week of major roadworks. Western Road and Moore Street, in Normanton, will be undergoing daytime closures as resurfacing works are carried out by Derby City Council.

Western Road will be closed for eight hours each day for six working days from Monday, September 26. The local authority’s in-house Streetpride team will then move straight onto the resurfacing of Moore Street, which adjoins Western Road, for eight working days from Tuesday, October 4.

The roads will be closed from 8am until 4pm on days when work is scheduled to take place. The Moore Street works will be completed in two phases.

The first will be from the road’s junction with Normanton Road to the Normanton Centre car park entrance (opposite No. 17 Moore Street). Phase two will take place from the car park entrance to where it meets Western Road.

All businesses in the Normanton Centre, which includes Home Bargains, as well as the auto centre on Moore Street itself, will receive letters in advance. It is likely motorists will still be able to access shops and businesses in the Normanton Centre from one end of Moore Street for the duration of the works.

A diversion route will however be in place for motorists affected by the Moore Street closure. It will take drivers via Normanton Road, Mill Hill Lane, Avondale Road, Renals Street, Salisbury Street and Moore Street, and the same in the opposite direction.

A letter sent to local residents and business owners revealed more details about the nature of the upcoming works on both streets. Part of it reads: “This work will involve the removal of the existing tarmac and replacing with new tarmac, and the replacement of any road lining and traffic loops where necessary.

“Road closures will be in place to allow us to complete this. Work is subject to good weather and no urgent work taking priority. We will commence at 8am and should be completed at approximately 4pm each day.

“During the work, we need to ensure you are kept safe at all times and as a result you may, on occasion, experience some delays in gaining access to your property. Please be patient. A supervisor will be on site and will be able to assist you.”
